What to Expect
1. Meet in the village
Gather at the operator base on Main Road. Wet-weather gear and walking poles are provided if you need them.
2. Into the valley
Walk into the glacier valley with your guide, following tracks that branch off the main public route.
3. Rainforest and side-tracks
Explore rainforest and viewpoints closed to independent walkers, with commentary on the ecology and geology.
4. Glacier viewpoint
Reach a viewpoint below the ice — the closest the valley floor now gets to the glacier — for photos and the full story of its retreat.
5. Return walk
Head back to the village. The tour runs about three hours, with roughly two hours in the valley.
